Vegetarian protein is mainly made up of one pulse vegetable and one cereal. You find these combinations in Indian and South American cooking, and everywhere there are vegetarian communities. Examples: maize and red beans, rice and lentils. The only one that is complete protein by itself is quinoa, which is healthy and delicious.

if he's going to be a vegetarian he has got to commit to his health. just because there's no meat doesn't mean candy is good for you. plenty of unhealthy vegetarians out there. broccoli, kale, and other super dark leafy greens are very high in protein and micronutrients. quinoa is a super powered high protein grain. animal protein is not necessary in order to be extremely healthy. micro nutrients from plant based products are usually better for you. read dr. joel furhman's "eat to live" information and learn about the ANDI scoring system. you'll be armed with all the info you need.

at 13 he may not be as serious as i'm going with this but investigate the ingredients on the unhealthy things he DOES eat and i bet you'll find some unethical items that he might turn his nose up at.

Quorn is a great substitute for meat and is high in protein, so use quorn mince in a pasta sauce with some cooked vegetables and he'll be getting a good dinner. Also try and make him snack on foods such as nuts as they provide protein, vitamins A and E, fibre and are very nutricious.
