Set up a direct debit from your current account to your savings account to go out as soon as you get paid. That way you are automatically saving and the money is gone before you have a chance to spend it.

What I use to do was spend what I wanted when I wanted. Now I have asked the bank for a monthly statement to be posted, I keep ALL of my reciepts (including parking, the odd chocolate bar, postage costs ect) and simply mark off what is on my statement. Then I add up what I have withdrawn from cash points and from the reciepts I paid in cash I subtract it from the amount. I find this so easy and comforting as I know exactly what I spend my money on! Also means that now my bankstatement is usually 2 pages rather than 3-4 as I am more conscience of my spendings.

Make a list of the non-perishable basics you ALWAYS need on an online supermarket like Ocado, from toothpaste to baked beans, pasta, loo paper, bleach, moisturiser,... so you can look out for special offers and ONLY buy them (and seriously in bulk if you can bear it) then; and only book free delivery (usually around 10pm a few days in advance). Also try mysupermarket.co.uk for comparing grocery prices. It's so satisfying knowing you haven't been ripped off - as long as you have the storage space!

When I do food shopping I buy around £9 saver stamps a month (u get £2 free on the card) so that when December comes I'm able to spend my £100 at a time when money is tight. All the larger supermarkets have cards to add money to saving for christmas for example & if you u save on your loyalty cards eg Nectar points for a year or Boots points then you can spend them on food/gifts spend less when buying for Christmas. This may not really be the answer you're looking for but it may help xxx
