Completely ignore the dog. By that I mean, no eye contact, hand movement nor voice, then when they jump up turn around. They should get bored and go away. If you're frightened of a dog, don't make eye contact as dogs, like humans, threaten through eyes.

I saw this on a dog behaviour programme, and used it on my brothers dogs (they're lovely, and tiny wee Llaso Apsos, but wanted to try it as they're bad for jumping up). Dogs don't find all eye contact threatening; only prolonged eye contact (which humans actually find threatening as well - it's very hostile!), and the eye contact you're making means to the dog that it might have found someone to give it some attention, or play with it. When you enter the house, or come near the dog, fold your arms across your chest, and don't give them eye contact. Once you've done this the dog should sit straight down. When you do it a few times with the same dog, it will realise you give it no attention, decide you're boring, and ignore you!

Dogs can sense that people are frightened of them, so don't let any dogs know that u are. Don't make eye contact with them..this is a threat to them. Turn ur back on them when they go to jump. It is the fault of the owner's .

Dogs can sense when people are scared of them, like a lot of animals, you should try and stay calm, stand up straight, and use body language to show you don't want that dog near you - try folding your arms, and don't look at the dog, keep your head up and also, greet everyone else first - always the dog last, else the dog will think 'Hey, I'm top dog, leader of the pack here' and that's never good. Another thing is that if the dog starts to run towards you, keep your hands low down, because if you lift them up, it will think you're playing and you have something for it. Hope this helps :) x
