Talk about inappropriate subjects to bring up with one's sixteen-year-old granddaughter! She already sounds like she's got a screw loose. My guess is there was some decision or event that occurred where your husband sided with you rather than her - one that you were probably unaware of. And she still thinks that his first loyalty should be to her rather than to his wife - her judgment is already demonstrably flawed, so keep that in mind. And the best person to find out what happened and to set your MIL straight is your husband. It'll be tough, but he needs to get on that ASAP.

Old people and children are alike, they are keen to seek attention and can even go to any lenghts. So I would suggest you ignore her negativity, talk to her like you would always do, and appreciate her positivity and good acts like when she phones in or cooks something for your kids, even if she shows love for your hubby. Appreciate her motherhood for that as well... praise, praise and just praise... just as you do it to your kids. Secondly think of things from her perspective, take a moment to think how would you feel in her place? Also, make sure your 16 year old isn't adding fuel to fire. And finally double check that your husband is giving proper time to his mum. Dear, a man has only one mother but wives he can get many. That's bitter but it's reality... so he must never ignore her.
