Like most animals,Hamsters are territorial and might only bite you when you invade their cage. In other cases it my be because it is adapting to a new environment. My suggested would be to leave a CLEAN cloth with your Scent on it in it's cage. So that it will get use to your smell another thing is to get a hampster ball for it to run around in. Hey I would bite you too if you kept me cooped up in a cage all day.

I'm not sure how well this works but my aunt always used to smear a little of the hamster's excrement on her fingers before approaching it and she said it never bit her. I know it doesnt seem very pleasant but it is better than a hamster bite.
